How to Secure Your Wireless Network
Ever felt like your wireless network was a little slow? Everyday, thousands of people are getting free internet at the expense of paying customers. In this E-how, you will learn how to password protect your wireless network.
Instructions

1
Determine the type of router you have. [Linksys, D-Link, etc]
-
2
Access your control panel. The following IPs will take you to your control panel
Linksys: http://192.168.1.1/
D-Link/Netgear: http://192.168.0.1/
SMC: http://192.168.2.1/
You may be asked to put in a password. If this is your first time using the control panel, type Admin as your user name and leave the password blank. If this is wrong, reset your router [there is a little button behind routers where you can force restart] -
-
3
Search for the username area [different for each router] and set a password for the administrator. This will prevent others going into your control panel to lock you out of your own network.
-
4
Go to your wireless area and set a password. Usually, the most simple and effective is WPA personal. Depending on your laptop or wireless card, you will also have to set the encryption type. AES is the most common.
