Make a Candy Pear (not Apple)

Now we have all heard of candy apples, right? What about a candy pear? I say why not? Pears are similar in shape and taste to an apple and make the perfect candidate for candying.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 9 medium pears
  • 9 popsicle sticks
  • 6 cups of granulated sugar
  • 3 cups of water
  • 3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
  • Red food coloring
  • Thermometer
  • Baking sheet
  1. Step 1

Place the popsicle sticks into the bottom of each pear and set aside.

  2. Step 2

In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, water and cream of tartar and cook quickly to a temp of 290 degrees, use a cooking thermometer for this.

  3. Step 3

Add a few drops of red food coloring.

  4. Step 4

Remove from heat and place pan in a bowl of hot water to keep the mixture from hardening.

  5. Step 5

Start dipping the pears into the mixture, then place dipped pears on a greased cookie sheet till they set.
