Ever wonder how to start your children reading before they even start school? Give your child a headstart! Here are some tips to get that started.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Household items, foods, etc.
  • Paper
  • Pencil, Pen, Markers, or Crayons
  • Tape
  1. Step 1

    Identify items around the house that you want to be part of your child's vocabulary, typically items that are four to five letters.

  2. Step 2

    Write those words on paper in large letters. Use crayons to make it more colorful and exciting.

  3. Step 3

    When using identified items around the house, say the word and grab or use the item. Then make sure you child sees the word while you are telling them what it is.

  4. Step 4

    Continue to re-inforce several times per day. Soon your child will be able to identify items around the house by looking at the word.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is very important that you re-inforce multiple times per day. This is very crucial to the time it will take for you child to become familiar with the words.
  • Using colors and art with the word signs can help children become more familiar with them.
  • A good time to do this are during meals.
  • There is NO guarentee that this will work for your particular situation.
