Sweet and Sour Meaballs Pot Luck Buffet Style

Here's an easy Sweet and Sour Meatball recipe that's sure to please everyone ~ great for tailgate or block parties too! Pot Luck Dinners and Buffets never go out of style ~ they're a great way to get together with family and friends. The citric acid/cider vinegar adds a nice touch. Make with your favorite meat of choice ~ either ground beef or venison.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 or 2 lbs. ground beef or ground venison
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 3 Tablespoons dry rice
  • 1/4 cup sugar, or to taste
  • 2 cans tomato soup
  • 4 cups water
  • pinch of grated onion, to taste
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste
  • 1 large or 2 small chunks of sour salt (citric acid crystal) found in spice section of market (if ground, start with 1/4 teaspoon and adjust as needed.
  1. Step 1

    Make meatballs, forming and rolling into small-medium size balls.

    Use: ground beef or venison, salt, pepper, egg, dry breadcrumbs, dry rice mixture.

  2. Step 2

    In large pot (dutch oven or stockpot) combine the following ingredients:

    tomato soup, water, grated onion.

  3. Step 3

    Bring ingredients in Step 2 to boil. Drop in meatball mixture from Step 1. Cover, reduce to simmer for 45 minutes.

  4. Step 4

    Add sour salt and sugar. Adjust seasonings to taste, reduce heat to low and cook an additional hour.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you can't find citric acid, use cider vinegar adding by tablespoon until you have achieved desired taste.
  • This recipe is great for potlucks, buffets, block parties and tailgate entertaining.
  • Make 1-2 days in advance, heat and place in crock pot or chafing dish to keep warm.
