How to Get Bass From Your System

If you like to "flow with the lows," you probably want more bass from your car audio system. There are many ways to improve the bass response of your system; let's look at some different approaches.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Adjust your stereo's settings. It sounds simple, but this is where to start. Move the bass setting up and decrease the treble just a bit. If your car has larger speakers in the back, fade back to the rear speakers and increase the volume. Most after-market car receivers have a "bass boost" or "loudness" option. Turn it on.

  2. Step 2

Add power. Replace your factory stereo with an aftermarket receiver and you'll have much better lows right away, thanks to the extra power. If you have an aftermarket system, add an amp for the same effect.

  3. Step 3

Improve your speakers. Add quality aftermarket speakers, particularly to replace your car's larger speakers. These will be more responsive, and they have a wider frequency range. You'll hear better lows.

  4. Step 4

Add a subwoofer. If you really want to drop the bomb, this is where you should start! A subwoofer does nothing but reproduce bass. All-in-one powered subwoofers are an easy way to add bass to any system. If you're designing a more elaborate setup, an amplifier and component subwoofer is the way to go.
