There are plenty of college and pro basketball video games on the market. Unfortunately, you can't take a game console into the office or school library. Luckily, you can play plenty of free basketball titles online. You won't be able to enjoy five-on-five action when playing these games. Still, there is enough variety to keep you entertained for hours. Here are a few free online basketball games.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Play the Candystand H.O.R.S.E. game. Once you log on, the game will automatically load. Choose the “Practice Shooting” option as you will need to get used to shooting with your cursor. Once you select a court, your practice session will begin. Place your cursor over the ball to move it to a location on the court. Pull your cursor down to put arc on the shot and release your mouse button to shoot.

  2. Step 2

Go to the Candystand Foul Shot Shoot-Out page. This is similar to the foul shot games found in arcades and carnivals. Click the “Start” option at the top of the game screen to begin. Once the game starts, place your cursor over the hands to move them toward the basketball. Click your left mouse button to grab the ball. Pull your cursor down to bring the ball back. Then fling your cursor forward to release the shot.

  3. Step 3

Enjoy a little one-on-one action with the Shockwave basketball game. Once the game loads, click the “Instructions” tab. After reading the short paragraph on the screen, click the arrow next to the “Game Controls” option. Basically, you use the arrows on your keyboard to move your player and the space bar to shoot. Once you've finished reading, click the “Play” tab at the bottom of the screen to begin.

  4. Step 4

Play the Planters Slam Dunk game. On the home page, choose the color of your jersey. Then click the “OK” tab. Select the “Free Play” option and click “OK.” Read the “How to Play” clipboard and select “OK” when you've finished. The game will load after about 30 seconds.

  5. Step 5

Go to the ESPN Arcade Basketball game. This is the same type of shooting game as Candystand's Foul Shot Shoot-Out. After the game loads, click the red “Start” tab to begin. Place your cursor over the hands to move them. Click over one of the four basketballs to pick it up. Pull back with your cursor to start your shot and fling your mouse forward while releasing the button to shoot. Unlike the Candystand game, you don't have to wait for the ball to come back to you as there are four basketballs available.
