The benefit of an Oral B electric toothbrush is the ability to clean your teeth at home like the dentist does in his or her office. That means this brush needs recharging, which is easy but sometimes inconvenient.

Decide how to recharge your toothbrush. After brushing, some people return the brush to the charger so that it is constantly charging when not in use. Others might take the brush on vacation without the charger, so the toothbrush will require a full recharge, which revitalizes the battery completely when the battery is dead. Most rechargeable batteries take several hours to recharge completely.

Recharge the brush's battery. Use the charger provided with the toothbrush upon purchase. It should be plugged into an outlet. Set the toothbrush on top of the charger; most Oral B models have a hole to set atop the charging piece.

Reuse the brush until the battery can't be recharged. If you return the brush to the charger after every use, you shouldn't worry about the brush dying. If not charged every day, the brush's battery has a life of up to two weeks. Eventually it will be time for a new toothbrush, because like all rechargeable battery-operated devices, the batteries only last so long. Devices like these can last several years.

Tip

  • Two-week battery life is based on the Oral B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 5000 with SmartGuide Electric Toothbrush.

Tip

  • Don't plug in the charger too close to a water source, which could result in electrocution.
