Instructions

  1. Folding the Headband

    • 1

Fold your bandanna in half diagonally to create a large triangular shape. Lay it in front of you so that the middle corner is facing toward you.

    • 2

Grab the corner and start rolling it up like you would a sleeping bag. Make the first fold in the thickness you want your headband to be. You should end up with a long, snake-like shape of your selected size.

    • 3

Place your headband on top of your head and tie the two ends at the nape of your neck. Or, for a different look, reverse the bandanna and place the knot on top of your head.

    Folding the Headscarf

    • 4

To create the headscarf, fold your bandanna into a large triangle like you did for the headband.

    • 5

Drape the middle of your bandanna over the crown of your head and then tie it under the nape of your neck.

    • 6

You can also tuck the loose corner underneath the knot to keep your bandanna neat and close to your head.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure to tie your knots tightly--you don’t want it flying off. Due to the bandanna’s material, it is almost impossible to tie it so tight that you can’t undo the knot.

  • There are lots of other ways to fold a bandanna to suit your individual style. Experiment a little to find your perfect look.

  • You don’t even have to wear the bandanna. There are plenty of other things you can do with it by using different folds. You can even fold it to make origami-like animals and dolls. Check your local craft store for patterns.

  • Don’t let children wear bandannas without supervision. They can impair breathing if worn over the nose and mouth. Children will often do this to dress up as robbers.

  • Unfold your bandanna when you’re not wearing it. Otherwise it could become permanently creased, especially if it is made of a stiff material.
