How to Print a Test Page on an HP D4200 Series Printer
The HP Deskjet D4200 series of printers were designed for ease of use, efficiency and minimal waste. Users can preview their print jobs on their computer prior to actually printing them. If a mistake is discovered, or if the printout just doesn’t look right, the print job and be canceled and corrections made--saving time, paper, ink and money. The D4200 series also allows users to print a test page to ensure all connections and settings are functioning properly.

Make sure the printer is connected to a working electrical outlet, and that the USB cable is properly connected to both the printer and the computer. Turn on the printer by pressing and releasing the Power button, located at the far right-hand side on the front of the printer.

Lift the paper output tray. Slide the paper guide to the left. Load plain white letter-sized paper into the paper input tray. Slide the paper guide to the right until it is snug against the paper.

Open a printable application on your computer. Single-left-click the "File" option to open the drop-down menu. Single-left-click the "Print" option. Single-left-click on the "Properties" option to open the Printer dialog box.

Single-left-click the "Features" tab in the printer dialog box. Single-left-click the "Printer Services" button to open the Printer toolbox.

Select the "Device Services" tab in the Printer toolbox. Single-left-click the "Print a Test Page" option to open a new dialog box. Single-left-click the "Print Page" option. Wait while the printer prints the test page.

Tips & Warnings
Some applications will display "Preferences" instead of "Properties" under the "Print Options" menu.
The path to the Printer Properties dialog box may be different depending on which application you chose. When in doubt, refer to the application’s help menu.
If all settings are correct and the computer is communicating properly with the printer, the test page will be generated automatically.
Recycle used printer paper whenever possible.
To save money, use the standard black print cartridge, rather than the photo print cartridge, when printing a test page.
