You don’t need to leave your four legged friend at home when it’s time to chow down in Phoenix. There are a number of eateries that welcome furry friends. Of course, seating is outdoors and leashes are strongly suggested. Here is a rundown of restaurants in Phoenix where you can take your dog for a bite. All of these destinations are within a 20-minute drive of downtown Phoenix and Sky Harbor Airport.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Drive to north Phoenix and visit Aunt Chilada’s restaurant hidden in the side of a gentle mountain slope in the prettily-named Dreamy Draw. The Mexican food here is authentic and affordable, and lots of locals gather here after-hours for the giant sized margaritas. An outside patio offers seating for patrons and dogs. Details: Aunt Chilada’s, 8330 N. Dreamy Draw, Phoenix, AZ; (602) 944-1286.

  2. Step 2

Feed a vegan urge at In the Raw, a Scottsdale hangout that offers wheat grass shooters, coffee drinks, sandwiches and pastries, and an interesting array of house-baked canine chow such as doggie muffins and bagels. It has a nice patio overlooking a greenbelt and golf course, too. Details: In the Raw, 8320 N. Hayden Rd., Scottsdale, 85258, (480) 443-4113.

  3. Step 3

Serenade your sweetie at Veneto Trattoria, a picturesque little eatery in Scottsdale that caters to the doggie set on the outdoor patio and also offers up tasty Italian fare like paninis, pastas and vino. Details: Veneto Trattoria, 6137 N. Scottsdale Rd., Scottsdale, 85250, (480) 948-9928.

  4. Step 4

Head west of the city to the historic Glendale district, where you can nosh on home cooked breakfasts outdoors at Kiss the Cook, a family owned eatery that offers great pancakes, egg dishes and omelets. The patio is open Saturday and Sunday for breakfast and lunch. Details: Kiss the Cook, 4915 W. Glendale Ave., Glendale AZ; (623) 939-4663. For dinner, don your lederhosen and visit Haus Murphy’s, a fun German café with an outdoor biergarten serving wiener schnitzel and all the trimmings. Details: Haus Murphy’s, 5739 W. Glendale Ave., Glendale, AZ; (623) 939-2480.
