How to Make a Chinese Jack-O-Lantern
When decorating for a Halloween party, consider making several of these Chinese lanterns to add to the festive decor. Once you learn how to create an easy paper lantern that creatively resembles a jack-o-lantern, you can teach it to others. Fold the orange construction paper in half lengthwise, then fold it in half again. Open up the last fold.

Cut into the paper from folded side, making slits 1 inch apart and stopping at the center fold.

Open the paper all the way, then fold the uncut section in the center and overlap them.

Staple the ends to form a 3-dimensional pumpkin.

Position a tea light inside of the lantern to create a glow.

Tips & Warnings
You can purchase battery operated tea lights, which are the safest option when creating a lantern from construction paper.
Never light a larger votive candle inside of a small paper lantern. Tea lights do not create a tall flame and will only burn for an hour or two.
