How to Play the Raga Lalita Scale on the Guitar

The Raga Lalita scale is based on Indian classical music. The scale structure of the Raga Lalita leads to an open and airy sound that is very unique. This is a great scale for practice alone or for compositional use.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Begin the Raga Lalita scale by finding the A string on your guitar and playing the third fret with your second finger. This will be the root.

  2. Step 2

    Continue on the A string by playing the fourth fret with your third finger. This is D flat, the second degree of the Raga Lalita scale.

  3. Step 3

    On the D string, play the second fret with your first finger. This is E, the third degree of the scale.

  4. Step 4

    Stay on the D string and play the third fret with your second finger. This is F, the fourth degree of the Raga Lalita scale.

  5. Step 5

    Move on to the G string and play the first fret with your first finger. This is G sharp, the fifth degree of the Raga Lalita scale.

  6. Step 6

    Remain on the G string and play the fourth fret with your fourth finger. This is B, the sixth degree of the Raga Lalita scale.

  7. Step 7

    Still on the G string, play the fifth fret with your fourth finger. This is C, the seventh degree of the Raga Lalita scale.

  8. Step 8

    Complete the Raga Lalita scale by repeating steps seven through one in reverse order.

Tips & Warnings
  • When practicing the Raga Lalita scale, make it a habit to use a metronome. Metronomes are great tools to develop good timing.
