Winter is a beautiful time to get married, and although not as popular as summer, winter appeals to many brides. Of course, one of your most important wedding choices is your dress, and you'll want to be sure to pick out the perfect winter attire for the big day. Here are a few steps to follow to pick out the perfect dress.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find a top-quality dress shop. Look for a shop that provides quality wedding gowns, excellent service and competitive prices. Consider a range of vendors, from specialty shops to chain stores and even online retailers.

  2. Step 2

Decide between a customized and a pre-made winter wedding dress. There are often plenty of quality pre-made choices. However, if you want something more unique, a customized dress is an excellent option. Just remember that you'll probably pay more for this type of dress.

  3. Step 3

Take the weather and season into consideration. It's likely to be cool outside and you don't want to spend your wedding day shivering. While you may love the strapless look, consider opting for a warmer style, such as a long-sleeved gown.

  4. Step 4

Pick a beautiful fabric. Heavier fabrics such as taffetas, brocades, satins, velvets, velour and even faux fur trimming are excellent choices for winter wedding dresses. These fabrics are considerably heavier than most other fabrics used for wedding dresses, making them great choices for winter weddings.

  5. Step 5

Beware of the dragging dress. The weather is often bad during the winter and the last thing you want is your beautiful wedding dress dragging in the snow and slush. Consider a dress without a train. If you choose to have a train, ensure that it can be easily bustled up to prevent any dragging that may ruin the dress.

  6. Step 6

Purchase accessories to keep you warm. Capes and boleros both go right over the wedding dress, providing some warmth. This is important if you are going to have an outdoor wedding or if you'll be going outdoors to get to the reception or even for photos. Hand muffs and white, lacey, thick tights can also keep you warm.
