Instructions

    • 1

Begin by tracing the hat pattern shown in the diagram onto a sheet of brown construction paper. Cut out the shape, and use your marker to draw tic-tac-toe designs on the cut-out to imitate "stitching." Make two of these shapes. Apply a thin line of glue along the curved edges of the cut-outs and press them together. This will form the scarecrow's hat. Set this aside.

    • 2

Fold a sheet of yellow construction paper in half and cut along the crease. Cut thin 1/4-inch strips from one piece. These will be glued on to serve as the scarecrow's hair.

    • 3

Place the paper bag, open side down, onto a clean work area. Glue a pair of wiggly eyes onto it, approximately 3 inches from the top. You may add eyebrows by gluing on a short length of yarn above each eye.

    • 4

Cut a small triangle out of the orange paper for the nose. Glue the yellow triangle nose slightly below and centered under the eyes. Draw a big smile under the nose. Trace and cut out two small pink circles, then glue one of the circles on either end of the smile, to simulate rosy cheeks.

    • 5

Apply a thin line of glue straight across the top of the bag. Attach the ends of the thin yellow strips from one side to the other, to simulate "hair." Trim the strips that overhang the face above the eyes to serve as bangs while giving a clear view of the scare crow's face. Glue the hat you made in Step 1 on top of the hair.

    • 6

Let the glue used to assemble the scare crow to dry. Crumple up newspaper and stuff it inside of the bag carefully.

    • 7

Apply glue to the top 3 inches of the paint stirrer stick then stick it into the bag, squeeze the bag tightly around the stick to glue it on. Tie a ribbon a couple of inches above the bottom edge. Tie a lovely bow and the lunchbag scare crow is complete.
