Many people are not as healthy as they would like to be, and they find it difficult to stay in shape and eat well. You do not have to start a huge diet or exercise program to begin to make changes in how fit your body is. Use the steps below to get fit and to stay fit.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Drink lots of water. Water keeps you hydrated and is healthier than soda or alcohol, or even juice. Water is also free and will help you feel full, so it can help keep you from overeating.

  2. Step 2

Walk as much as you can. Park farther from entrances so that you have to walk farther, and take the stairs instead of the elevator. Instead of sitting on your breaks or lunch hour, take a trip around the block or parking lot. After dinner, take a walk around the block with your pets or family. Walking is a low-impact exercise that is easy enough for just about everyone.

  3. Step 3

Eat a meatless meal at least once a week. While this may seem impossible for some, it can be as easy as having beans and cornbread, bean burritos or a large salad full of fresh vegetables. You may even enjoy a meal of finger foods with chopped fruits and vegetables for dinner. This is a great way to save a little money and live a healthier life.

  4. Step 4

Limit red meat to one night a week or fewer. While a steak or a hamburger may sound good, the health benefits are not that great. Try eating only one steak a week, and if you feel the need to make a meal with ground beef try using ground turkey instead. If you are worried that your family will dislike the ground turkey, work it into your meals slowly, such as using half ground beef and half ground turkey, until your family becomes used to the difference in taste.

  5. Step 5

Go to sleep early or take naps. The more sleep you get the better you will feel, and the better you feel the more likely you are to watch what you eat and have the energy to exercise. Sleep helps keep your body calm, which in turn can help you live a life with less stress. A good night of sleep will also help your body recover from some of the ailments you may have.

Tips & Warnings
  • Start changing small things during your day if you do not feel comfortable making large changes.
  • Check with your doctor before beginning any sort of diet or exercise plan.
  • If any of these changes causes you pain or makes you ill, stop it and see your doctor immediately.
