How to Use a Mighty Mouse to Zoom

Apple's Mac OS X operating system includes features intended to make using a computer easier for people with disabilities. One of these functions is built right into the Mighty Mouse. The Mighty Mouse's scroll bar is primarily used to scan websites and documents, but it can also be used to zoom in and out of your computer screen to make text and pictures easier to see. This article explains how to enable zooming on your computer and use a Mighty Mouse to control it.

Things You'll Need:

  • Mac running OS X 10.4 or later, Mighty Mouse (wired or wireless)

    How to Use a Mighty Mouse to Zoom

  1. Step 1

    Open System Preferences by clicking on the icon in the dock.

  2. Step 2

    Click on the "Keyboard & Mouse" control panel under the "Hardware" category.

  3. Step 3

    Click on the "Mouse" tab at the top of the control panel window.

  4. Step 4

    Check the box next to "Zoom using scroll bar when holding" at the very bottom of the control panel window.

  5. Step 5

    Choose an enable key from the drop-down list. This will be the button on the keyboard you press to enable screen zooming.

  6. Step 6

    Hold down the key you selected in Step 5 and move the scroll bar up to zoom in on the screen. Hold down the same button and move the scroll bar down to zoom out of the screen.
