Affordable Apple Laptops

Apple laptops are some of the most sought after laptops available on the market. They also are some of the least affordable. The durability, style and stability of the Operating System makes them highly sought after and, possibly, the reason why they are more expensive than other brands. There are ways to buy them at a more affordable price if you know where to buy and what to look for.

Instructions

Compare prices online or at retail stores. There are retail shops that may sell Apple laptops at a lower price. Most of the time, you would not get a huge discount, but some stores offer some promotional rebates just to get more customers, so ensure to watch out for those rare occasions.

Buy refurbished Apple laptops. You can find them online at the Apple website or Apple retail stores. Some resellers offer them as well. Most stores sell refurbished items at a much lower price. Customers return items because they either changed their minds or they upgraded to a different model. Some of the shops send them back to Apple, then sell them at a much lower price. Some may have minor repairs needed, but you will be buying ones already repaired.

Buy at auctions. You can go to eBay, uBid and other online auction sites, and if you get lucky, you will end up with a better price. There also are some companies that either go under or are getting rid of some used equipment which they have auctioneers handle the sales. They may have MAC computers including some laptops that they are selling to bidders. Just be wary that, at times, you cannot inspect what you are buying, so be ready to spend a little time and money to repair minor issues.

Use student discounts. Apple offers Education Pricing whereby students, teachers, administrators, staff of any grade level or college professors can avail of discounts. They sometimes include a free iPod. The savings do add up in the hundreds. Check the requirements if you qualify by going to the Apple website.

Use your company’s discounts. Apple works with certain companies to offer the employees discounts. Check with your company's procurement about how you can avail of these discounts, if they offer them at all.

Purchase only what you need. At times, the price of an Apple laptop goes even higher when you custom order additional software or so-called add-ons. Just buy a basic one and then build from there, or buy your software at discounted price somewhere else. Apple MacBook is thousands of dollars cheaper than the MacBook Pro.

Hold off on buying at first release. Remember what happens when there is frenzy--people buy on impulse, or they want to be the first one to buy the new release. People end up paying more for new technology. However, as time passes, the prices often go lower. Apple's iPhone reduced its price a couple of times after its first release. The company has done this with some of its laptop models as well.

Wait for holiday sales. Some stores will offer items, including Apple laptops, at discounted prices. They may price a couple or a handful lower for the first few patrons at a given date and time. The only drawback is that you may need to line up early or compete with others to get in and be the lucky one.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may ask a friend who works at Apple to buy one for you at a discounted price if they offer their employees a discount. However, they may limit their allowances, so your friend may not be willing to do this for you since he may need it for himself or his family.

  • Be careful when bidding online. Always check the seller’s history and rating by looking at his or her profile. Check the number of complaints he or she has received compared to the number of satisfied customers. You can also check the BBB (Better Business Bureau) to ensure you are buying from a company with good standing.
