How to Make a Doughnut Hair Bun Ring
You can buy a doughnut ring in any hair-care store, but they tend to break and seem to only come in white foam, which is not that beneficial for people of almost any hair color: When you are finished making your bun, the foam will show through. The biggest advantage of making your own ring is that it will not break, but you can also make one that will closely match your own hair color and will be the correct size for your amount of hair. Buy a pair of knee-high socks in the color that is closest to your own hair. It doesn't have to be a perfect match; just similar.

Cut the feet out of the socks, leaving a tube that is open on both ends.

Roll up one of the socks up into a doughnut shape. If the ring you are making is for someone with short or very little hair, one sock might be enough. If you need two socks for a thicker doughnut, put the seam of the first doughnut ring on the outside and start rolling the second sock over the first. This will ensure that you wrap the second sock over the first enough to keep the first seam from slipping.

Secure the seam. Put a small amount of super glue on the inside of the sock and let it dry. When it has dried, twist the doughnut until the seam is on the inside. Your doughnut ring is now complete, and you are ready to create the perfect hair bun.

The thicker your hair, the more you will need to stretch out the center of the doughnut--but be careful not to stretch it too far.
