How to Wax a Snowboard Base
Waxing your snowboard between uses will ensure that it performs at its best every ride and is able to glide quickly and smoothly over snow. It is one of the most regular and important snowboard maintenance items that you will perform. Here's a step-by-step guide.

- Iron
- Rag
- Base cleaner
- Snowboard/ski wax
- Plastic scraper
- Metal brush or scrub pad
- Workbench/sawhorses

Heat up your iron. If possible use an iron designed for snowboard waxing. If using a regular iron, do not make it too hot as this could damage the snowboard. Begin on a lower heat and adjust as needed.

While the iron is warming up, clean the base of your board with a rag or paper towels and base cleaner. Remove any dirt, debris and visible old wax. Lay the board base up on the work area, which can be a workbench or on two sawhorses.

Hold the iron over the board with the pointy end down and touch it against the wax to melt it. You can drip wax over the base of the board or heat up the bar of wax and rub on evenly.

Once you have wax spread over the entire base, use the iron to spread it into the base in an even application. Iron up and down the full length of the board until the wax is spread evenly across the entire base.

Allow to cool and dry for 20 to 30 minutes.

Use the plastic scraper to scrape off excess wax. Scrape in one direction using long steady scrapes.

Touch up with a metal brush or scrub pad.

Wax between every few rides, if not every ride, to ensure the best, fastest performance.
For a quick wax on the slopes or away from home, use a spray-on or rub-on wax that can be applied and evened with an included pad or brush.
Do not leave the iron in any one spot of your snowboard for too long as it can damage the board.
Wax in well-ventilated area.
