Measure the square footage of your room. Measure the width and length of the room in feet, and then multiply the two measurements together. This will give you the square footage of your room. If your room isn't a simple square or rectangle (for example, an L-shaped room), simply treat it as two smaller rooms. Measure the square footage of each, and then add the two together for the total.

Determine the square footage of your individual carpet tiles. If the carpet tiles are 1 foot by 1 foot, then they're 1 square foot for each. At any rate, the math is the same as you used when determining the square footage of your room. The carpet tiles you have in mind may come in packages. Check the square footage listed on the package.

Now do a little simple arithmetic. Say your room is 50 square feet, and your carpet tiles come in packages of 10 square feet. Divide the room's square footage by the carpet tile's (or package in this case) square footage: 50 square feet divided by 10 square feet equals 5. You'll need five packages of carpet tiles to do the job.
