Buffing a Snowboard
Buffing and waxing your snowboard helps to make you faster and gives you a smoother ride. Even the most high-tech snowboards perform best when waxed and buffed regularly. When you inspect the base of the board, if you notice "dry spots" and a lot of visible striation, it is time to buff and wax again.

Waxing
-
1
Preheat your iron. While you’re waiting, ensure that your snowboard’s base is clean and free of particles, dirt and grime. If not, tidy it up with some cleaner.
-
2
Melt the wax into your snowboard base with the hot iron. First, spread some wax dots evenly around the snowboard base. Then set the iron to a medium to low setting and, holding the iron so that its point faces the base, press a piece of wax into the plate of the iron.

3
Iron the base from one end to the next. Do your best to distribute the wax smoothly and evenly. Don’t leave any spaces blank. The wax is going to cool as you work, so keep the pace of your waxing steady. Don’t linger too long on one spot, as excessive heat in one area can damage the base. Once you’ve waxed the entire board base, wait 20 minutes and then remove any excess wax from the edges and sidewalls of the board only with the scraper.
Scraping
-
4
Make sure that you’re in an area where you can make a mess, since the wax scrapings will fall from the board as you go.
-
5
Use the plastic scraper to scrape off the wax. Only scrape in one direction—never move back-and-forth with the scraper. Remove as much wax as you can, and then buff the wax with the with your brush. Work from one end to the next, as you did when applying the wax.
-
6
Once you’ve finished buffing, the base should be glossy and gleaming. If you like, you can also buff again with a fine brush to create another level of structuring.

Tips & Warnings
The iron you use for this project will be permanently ruined and suitable only for waxing and buffing snowboards after you use it. Don't borrow an iron or use Mom's iron! You can also purchase an iron specially made for this purpose.
Be careful when handling the hot iron. Take your time so that you don't rush around between steps and burn yourself.
