How to Become an Extra on Lost
If you have any interest at all in acting or finding out what it is like on a film set, working as an extra--also known as a background actor--can be an interesting, exciting experience. While some television shows only have a small cast and limited need for extras, "Lost," with its ensemble cast and constant flashbacks and flash-forwards to different locales, is in constant need of new faces for background work.

Go to Hawaii. "Lost" is filmed on the island of Oahu, so you must be located on Oahu, or be staying on Oahu for a few weeks, in order to be available for extra work. Typically the filming schedule for "Lost" begins in the middle of August and lasts all the way until May, with a break for Christmas. "Lost" typically films Monday through Friday.

2
Prepare a photo to send to casting directors. While it is not necessary to have the usual 8-by-10 inch photos required of actors, you will need to provide the casting director with one close-up and one full-length photo.

3
Put together a resume. While you don’t need to be a professional actor to work on "Lost" as a background actor, you do need to have a resume. It’s fine if you don’t have any acting credits; however, remember to put down any special skills you may have. For instance, somebody in the military might be useful for a scene involving soldiers.

Send your resume and photos to the "Lost" casting offices. The extras casting director is based at the Honolulu production office. You can address your application to: Grass Skirt Productions, Attn.: Casting, 510 18th Ave., Honolulu, Hawaii, 96816.

Be prepared. If the "Lost" casting director decides to use you, it will more than likely be on short notice, meaning that they need you the following day. You will be provided with a phone number that you will have to call the prior evening to find out what your call time is. For extras this can typically be very early in the morning, sometimes as early as 5:30 a.m. You will need your own transportation to get there since they tend to shoot all over the island. You should also be prepared to provide your own wardrobe and makeup.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure you have a good range of winter clothing and bring layers. Because "Lost" locations can double up for cities all around the world, you could find yourself wearing heavy winter coats in the middle of 80 degree F weather.
