The Four Card Draw card game is a very simple gambling game to play. Each player can see all the cards that each of the other players receive. There is no wagering after each card is dealt. The only wagering done is at the beginning of the hand. This is a game that serves as a good time filler when waiting for friends to arrive for a home poker night.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Find a group of friends to play Four Card Draw with. The minimum number of players is three, and the maximum is 13 players. The ideal number of players is between four and eight.

  2. Step 2

Direct each player to ante into the pot. This should be a larger ante than in typical poker games, because there is no wagering after the original ante.

  3. Step 3

Deal four face-up cards to each player.

  4. Step 4

Award points to each player based on any pairs, three of a kind, or four a kind he or she has received. A pair is worth one point, three of a kind worth two points, and four of a kind is worth three points.

  5. Step 5

Distribute points to each player based on how many cards in one suit a player has. If a player has three cards in one suit, he or she receives one point. If he or she has four cards all of the same suit, he or she receives two points. Any player with four cards, one from each suit, receives two points as well.

  6. Step 6

Calculate points for any sequence a player has. The sequence must be four cards long, and Aces are low in Four Card Draw. A four-card sequence is worth four points.

  7. Step 7

Add up each player's points that he or she was rewarded for matching cards of the same rank, points based on the suits of the cards, and points based on any four-card sequences. The player with the highest point total wins the game. If two or more players tie, the pot is either split, or you can determine your own tie breaker rule to determine a single winner.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you wish to have a single winner when there is a tie for point total, a popular way is by which player has the highest ranking card. Remember, Aces are low. If two players that tied have the same high card, then move on to their second highest cards to break the tie among the players that are tied.
  • The lack of wagering in this game limits the entertainment value of the game for experienced poker players. That is why it should only be played at your home poker night when waiting for others to arrive, or while the players are eating and want an easy game to play during the meal.
