One of your two defenders has gained possession of the puck near the net. Now it's time to move it up ice and out of your danger zone.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Skate behind the net when your defensive player has possession in the corner. An opposing forechecker will likely follow.

  2. Step 2

Move a wing down ice into the face-off circle, stretching distance between him and opposing defenders. Watch the puck and wait.

  3. Step 3

Pass quickly to the open wing as your defensive player clears the net.

  4. Step 4

Skate the wing in a tight turn and speed up-ice.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the pursuing forechecker closes too fast or you fear being cut-off before clearing the net, use the approaching corner to pass the puck around the boards. If your wing is ready to grab the puck as it comes around, you'll have completed a quick and surprising variation.
  • Always skate behind the net. If you're checked by a defender and lose possession in front of the net, you won't be popular with your goalie.
  • If you have any condition that would impair or limit your ability to engage in physical activity, please consult a physician before attempting this activity. This information is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.
