How to Become a Certified Teaching Aide

Becoming an educator is something that a lot of people strive to do. However, if you don't want to go to school as long as you would need to in order to be a teacher, you might consider becoming a certified teaching aide. It can be an easy way to get in the schools to get an idea of what being a teacher is like. Schools always need aides, so you will want to explore your options.

      Create a resume that highlights your background with children. If you ever worked with kids or had a job that dealt with kids, add this to your resume. If you are a student in education, add this in as well. In order to be certified to be a teaching aide, you should have at least an Associate's Degree in Education. If you do not, but you have had substantial work experience in an educational setting you might still be considered for a job in a school.

      Go to the state board of education's website for the state in which you live, or in the country where you live. This website can be found by going to the U.S. Board of Education's site in the United States. Find the listing for the state site for education in the state where you live. You will need to need to visit this site because it will outline the requirements for being a certified teaching aide in your state. Some of the general requirements include a clean background check, a history of working with children, and a fair or good credit rating. These are general requirements for most states.

      Apply with the State Board of Education to have a certified teacher's aide license. The Board will tell you if you need to apply with any other agencies. At the least, the Board will do a background and history check on you, and you will need a medical examination. At the most, you will need to take a test about child development or take some courses about being a teacher's aide. These courses can be found anywhere -from colleges that have education programs, to your local YMCA.

      Once your teacher's aide certification comes in the mail, you can begin to apply to schools that require a teacher's aide. In order to apply to various schools, you will first need to answer an ad that state they need teaching aides. Then, the district or school will give you an application to fill out. You will be asked in for an interview if your application is accepted and your resume seems to be what they are looking for. Often, if the school needs aides right away, you will be able to be hired on the same day you interview.

      If you do not get a certification, you can still become a teacher's aide. Private schools, nursery schools and schools that are not affiliated with the Department of Education often hire people to work for them as teacher's aides. Keep a lookout for job opportunities near you.
