Fried rice is a simple and delicious addition to any meal.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Four Servings - double if necessary
  • 1 cup of long grain rice - the best rice for this purpose is the one with the name we all know
  • 3 tablespoons of butter or olive oil
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon salt depending on your taste
  1. Step 1

Melt the butter or pour the oil into a heavy saucepan with a tight-fitting lid.

  2. Step 2

Pour the rice in the saucepan.

Over medium to high heat brown the rice, stirring constantly.

Keep cooking and stirring until the rice is dark brown.

A spatula is good for stirring the rice.

  3. Step 3

Add the salt and the two cups of water all at once. The rice will bubble up so stay back.

Scrape the bottom of the pot with your spatula to get up any browned material.

Turn heat to medium and cook, WITHOUT STIRRING, until the surface of the rice is level. This means that you will still see bubbles but most of the water has been absorbed.

Cover pot. Turn heat to LOW and continue to cook for 20 minutes.

    Serve. Enjoy!
