How to RestoreTeflon Pans
Teflon is the trademarked name for Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Discovered in 1938 by Dupont it has changed the face of pots and pans everywhere. With use, the surface can start to become stained and lessen its nonstick properties. Many people throw their pans out; others have them recoated. Try a simple trick to renew the nonstick surface before giving up on the pan. Does this Spark an idea?

Make a mixture of 1 cup water, 2 tablespoons of baking soda and 1/2 cup chlorine bleach. Fill the pan with the mixture, being careful not to spill on the areas surrounding the pan.

Place the filled pan on the stove and boil the mixture for five to 10 minutes. Let it cool. Pour any remaining mixture out of the pan.

Wash the pan with soapy water and rinse well.

Rub a generous amount of vegetable oil into the pan with a paper towel. Results vary depending on condition and type of Teflon coating on pan.
