If you're looking for a new dog to add to your family, you'll want to consider whether to adopt a puppy or a dog. Here are some of the advantages of adopting a puppy.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

You Can Train Your Dog at an Early Age to Participate in Certain Activities.

If you enjoy Frisbee and would love to have a canine partner, you can expose your dog to Frisbee at a young age in hopes that he'll develop a fondness for it too. You can increase your chances of creating an avid Frisbee player by choosing particular breeds such as a Border Collie or Australian Shepherd. These dogs are known for their Frisbee and ball skills.

  2. Step 2

You May Have Some Background on Your Puppy's Genetics.

If you have purchase a puppy from a reputable breeder, you can obtain information on the health history of your puppy's parents. This will allow you to make your veterinarian aware of any potential hereditary tendencies your puppy may have toward particular diseases so you can practice preventative care.

  3. Step 3

You Can Shape a Puppy's Personality.

If you raise a puppy from a young age, you'll have some influence over his personality as an adult dog, within the limitations of genetics. With the proper care and training, you can raise your puppy to be friendly and obedient with both adults and children. You have more control over the outcome of a puppy's personality as opposed to that of an older dog.

  4. Step 4

You Can Enjoy Watching Your Puppy Grow Into an Adult.

Just as some people love the prospect of raising a child from birth, raising a puppy can give the same satisfaction. You'll have an opportunity to take lots of pictures and create lots of memories to look back on over the years.
