Step 1
Before you start researching ideas for businesses, take some time to think about what you are good at and what you enjoy. Also determine how many hours a day you could devote to a Christian home business and when in the day you would be available to work. If you have small children at home, your primary work hours may be after the kids are in bed. Any opportunity that would require daytime availability would not be a good fit in that case.
-
Step 2
Once you have determined your strengths and time availability, start looking for opportunities that match these constraints. Do a search using Google on the phrases "Christian Home Business" and "Christian Work at Home". Bookmark any sites you find to refer back to as you move forward.
-
Step 3
At first, just do some surface-level researching and write down the home business opportunities that look interesting. Don't confine your research to just Christian opportunities - you may be able to find a non-Christian home business that you can put your own Christian spin on. The key here is to see what is out there and potentially generate your own unique ideas.
-
Step 4
Once you have a list of promising home businesses, start to research each opportunity in more depth. What, if any, are the start up costs? Is there a forum for support from others in the business? Look for work at home message boards to get inside information on a given business. Keeping a spreadsheet that lists each business idea and your research findings is a good way to compare opportunities side-by-side.
-
Step 5
After doing research on each Christian home business, start ranking each opportunity based on your qualifications from step 1. Determine what would be necessary to start up each business - are there opportunities with very small start up costs that you could try out without losing alot of money? Unfortunately, finding the right home business is sometimes a matter of trial and error with alot of learning along the way.
-
Step 6
Finally, be sure to check with an accountant before starting your own Christian home business. Be sure to consider the tax implications of being self-employed when evaluating the amount of income you will need to be successful. And most importantly, always pray for guidance before making any decisions.
