A good Henckel knife is your best friend in the kitchen. But a dull Henckel can make meal prep a real chore. Chop carrots, dice onions and slice meat with ease by keeping your knives razor sharp. J.A. Henckel recommends the use of a sharpening steel to maintain your knives.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Henckel knife
  • Sharpening steel
  1. Step 1

Place the tip of the steel on the kitchen counter and hold the tool straight up and down.

  2. Step 2

Place the heel (base) of the Henckel knife on the steel at a 20 degree angle. Be sure to keep your fingers away from the blade.

  3. Step 3

Swipe the blade across the steel as if you are peeling the metal. Sweep the entire length of the knife from heel to tip. Only use the upper half of the steel to avoid cutting your counter top.

  4. Step 4

Now sharpen the other side of the Henckel, using the same angle. Repeat on both sides.

  5. Step 5

Continue until your Henckel is sharpened, alternating sides. About six passes on each side should keep your knife sharp.

Tips & Warnings
  • The steel is often part of a Henckel set or can be purchased separately.
  • Use the sharpening steel before each meal prep to keep your Henckels in tip top shape.
