How to Use a Swiffer Without the Duster Sheets

Do you love the convenience of the Swiffer floor dusters or mops but hate having to constantly buy new duster sheets? You can replace the duster sheets with a variety of different things. Not only are these as easy to use as the store-bought duster sheets but since they can be washed and reused, they are greener too! Spritz the duster sheet replacements with dusting spray to dust or pour small amounts of floor cleaner or white vinegar on the floor for mopping.

Things You'll Need

• Swiffer
• Microfiber cloths
• Cleaning cloths
• Old socks
• Old clothes
• Old cloth diapers
• Old cotton sheets or pillowcases
• Scissors
• Clothes pins (optional)

Instructions

1. Replace the Swiffer duster sheets with a microfiber cloth. Put it under the Swiffer pad and fold the microfiber cloth over the edge. Trim off any excess and push the edges into the holes on top of the Swiffer. Or clip the edges together with clothes pins.

2. Use old cleaning cloths. Ones made from hand towels work well because of the fabric’s nap. You can trim them to size and use them as a regular Swiffer duster sheets. You can also fold them to fit and secure them on top of the Swiffer pad with clothes pins. This keeps you from having to trim your cleaning cloths just for the Swiffer.

3. Keep old socks to use on the Swiffer. A man’s cotton tube socks work best due to the size of the sock and the absorbency of cotton. Cut a line halfway down the sock on one side so it can be pulled over the Swiffer handle on the pad. Secure the sock with clothes pins on the other side of the handle.

4. Use old clothes that are too ugly or stained to donate to charity to make replacement duster sheets. Clothes made from terrycloth, cotton or flannel work better than synthetics, silk or satin. Avoid heavy fabric like denim, anything that has metal decorations or something is made from material that bleeds when it gets wet.

5. Use cloth diapers to use as replacement duster sheets. Trim these to size or fold thinner diapers to fit. If they are too thick to stick into the holes on the Swiffer that hold the dusting sheets, secure them with clothes pins.

6. Cut up old cotton sheets tor pillow cases o make replacement duster sheets. Use sheets made from cotton or flannel sheets and not sheets made from satin or silk. Either push the ends through the holes on the top of the Swiffer or secure with clothes pins.
