Things You'll Need:
- Bible
- Paper
- Scissors
- Basket
- Pencils or pens
-
Step 1
Read the story of the first Thanksgiving to the children while some of the adults are still preparing dinner. You can borrow children's books from the library. Feel free to ask the children questions about what you have read them to see if they understand the importance of Thanksgiving.
-
Step 2
Dress some of the children up like Indians and some of them like Pilgrims. Have them eat together this way to re-enact the first Thanksgiving dinner.
-
Step 3
Give each family member a slip of white paper before dinner begins and have them write one thing they are thankful for on it. Then have them place that paper in a basket. At the beginning of dinner, read each strip of paper out loud to the group.
-
Step 4
Have each family member state one thing they are thankful for about the person sitting to their left when the meal is over. That way you started and ended the dinner giving thanks.
-
Step 5
Help the children make cards for their teachers. Sometimes we can forget about all of the hard work that they do. Teachers will really appreciate such a gift.
-
Step 6
Volunteer at a soup kitchen or donate money for another family to receive a meal. This will help you to be thankful for what you have.
