How to Save Pepper Seeds

Did you know that you can grow your favorite peppers easily by collecting the seeds? It's simple to collect the seeds.

• Small plastic zipper bags
• Permanent markers

Instructions

Collecting the Seeds

1. Cut your favorite variety of pepper in half. All of the seeds inside are most likely viable and you can use them to grow the same variety of pepper in containers or in a sunny garden spot. Collect the seeds and lay them flat on a paper towel for 24 hours.

2. Label the plastic bag with the permanent marker with the name or variety of the pepper seeds. Place the seeds inside for planting.

3. Keep the seeds in a cool, but not cold, dark area until you are ready to start them in early spring.

Tips & Warnings

• You can grow any type of pepper from its seeds so you can enjoy habaneros, chili peppers, red bell pepper or yellow banana peppers and not have to buy a whole package of seeds (if you can find them).

• Make certain that the seeds are completely dry before sealing the plastic bag; otherwise, mold may form and spoil the seeds.
