1
Add patches of fabric onto the flannel shirt and jeans. You want the outfit to have the worn look. If you don't have these pieces of clothing, look at your local thrift stores. You can find deals and they will already have the worn look. You can also fray the edges of the clothing with scissors.

2
Hand sew or glue a fake crow onto the shoulder of the shirt. Have your child put on the shirt so that you can position the crow so that it will sit nicely. You can find a fake crow at your local craft store. They are really inexpensive and you can remove them from the shirt later to use in another project.

Put the straw hat on your child. Attach additional straw coming out randomly out of the hat. You can even add straw coming out from the pockets on the pants and shirt. The more straw you add, the more authentic your costume will look. You can stick it into the hat or glue it on.

4
Dress your child. Add straw coming out of the outfit and even string some hanging out of their shoes. Make sure that it does not irritate their skin while they are moving. It may irritate their skin if it's rubbing.

5
Apply makeup to the face. You want to outline the eyes in shapes like triangles and use bright colors. Give your child two red cheeks and you can even outline the nose. The more colors you use, the better. Test a small area before covering the whole face to check for allergies.
