Ready for a new thrilling experience to take your hooping to the next level? Saturate your senses with sightless hoopdance, otherwise known as "Hooping in the Buff". Here's some tips on how to get started...

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A HoopGirl Buff handband
  • A hoop
  • Great music in a soundsystem or an i-pod shuffle
  • A safe space where you can hoop without bumping into anything
  1. Step 1

Create a play list! This is where the magic really begins. Take time to select songs which really inspire you to shake your booty and express your muse. Combine a variety of songs which push you past your comfort level and inspire you to try new things. Make the play list the same amount of time you will commit to your dance practice so you are encouraged to do the entire session.

  2. Step 2

Begin by clearing the space you will be using of any fragile items, dogs, children or obstructions. You will need one that is ideally 8x8 ft at a minimum. Inside is great for privacy.

  3. Step 3

Apply your HoopGirl Buff headband to your head and turn on the music, or apply the ipod Shuffle to the headband and wrap the wires around the headband before beginning.

  4. Step 4

Breathe! While you begin hooping, let your awareness sink into your lungs and really focus on taking deep breaths. Sense how the hoop contacts your skin and move into sensation. Activate your awareness! Let your awareness focus on one area at a time.

  5. Step 5

Play with moves while blindfolded. Experiment. Play with angled hooping doing moves like Booty Bump and Limbo. Watch the hoop in your mind's eye while your skin navigates the hoop around you.

  6. Step 6

Play with levels. Play with both your inflow and outflow. Use fun visualizations like imagining you are playing with giant bubbles. Allow yourself to go into your own hoop trance and explore a fantastical journey of your own devising. Invest yourself completely into this time and have fun!
