Free pumpkin carving patterns can now be easily found with a simple internet search. Instead of trying to invent a new, cool look for your Halloween jack-o-lantern, you can simply find a pattern you like, print it, and use it to carve a unique Halloween pumpkin.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Printer
  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Toothpick, pen, pencil, or other poking device
  • Carving knife
  1. Step 1

Find a free pumpkin carving pattern online that you like. You can easily find sites that offer printable pumpkin carving patterns with a simple internet search.

  2. Step 2

Print the pumpkin pattern onto regular printer paper.

  3. Step 3

Cut the excess paper off the edges of the pattern.

  4. Step 4

Hold the pattern against the pumpkin, and tape the edges of the paper to the pumpkin. If necessary, cut slits in the edges of the paper to help it form to the round surface of the pumpkin.

  5. Step 5

Use a toothpick, pen, pencil, or other poking device to poke holes along the lines of the pattern. Poke through the paper and into the pumpkin flesh. On areas of detail, poke the holes closer together. On areas of less detail, you can poke the holes further apart. The goal is to transfer the pattern to the flesh of the pumpkin.

  6. Step 6

Remove the pattern from the pumpkin.

  7. Step 7

Cut the pattern out of the pumpkin, using the paper pattern for reference if the holes become confusing.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure your pumpkin is clean and dry prior to carving. The pattern and tape will not hold up well on a wet pumpkin.
