Step 1
Turn on your favorite music. Now, that is assuming that you do not listen to very slow and sad music or you will probably find yourself curled up on your bed taking a nap after just a few minutes. Turn on upbeat music with rhythm so it will naturally motivate you to get your body moving.
-
Step 2
Bring in some snacks and drinks. If after every few minutes you can reward yourself with something yummy, then you can find pleasure during your chore. Just make sure you do not sit down and eat everything all at once or again, you will find yourself snoozing instead of cleaning.
-
Step 3
Invite a friend. If you are the kind of person that does not like to be by yourself, then have a friend over. They do not have to work of course, but they can hang out and talk with you while you work. You will find yourself laughing and having a good time. Plan on doing something fun with them when you finish, like watching a movie or playing basketball together.
-
Step 4
Stay organized. Bring the vacuum cleaner to the room with a dust rag, some all-purpose surface cleaner, paper towels, and a trash bag, all in a laundry basket. Start in one corner of the room and work around, tossing dirty clothes into the laundry basket, trash into the trash bag and clean clothes in two piles on your bed – one for the closet and one for the dresser.
-
Step 5
Straighten any bookshelves and wipe the shelves with your dust rag as you go. Clean all the surfaces with the spray cleaner. Take out the dirty laundry and trash. Hang up the closet clothes, fold, and put away the dresser clothes. If your bed is not made, then make it now, pulling the blankets and sheets nice and tight. Take any dirty dishes to the kitchen and then finish with a good vacuum. Do not forget to vacuum under the bed and use the hose attachment to clean in the corners.
Now do something fun for yourself.

on 3/12/2009 I think the best idea for me is to have music playing. Usually I keep the house silent, but I happen to have 6 CDs with Christmas music on them that I have never listened to. A perfect opportunity to re-live the holidays and get the room cleaned! Thank you! 5*
