Things You'll Need:
- cuticle scissors
-
Step 1
Clean, dry hair is great to start off with. Since you are doing this yourself if you're hair is wet you might cut more than you think, once it dries it will look much shorter. So dry is better. No products in your hair since it will not show you how your bangs will naturally look.
-
Step 2
Put a small section between your fingers. Do not pull your strands because again you will cut more than you would like. If you want bangs that are straight across put your fingers straight. Side swept bang? Put your fingers at an angle.
-
Step 3
Use cuticle scissors, or small scissors, so you don't chop too much off. Smaller scissors give you more control.
-
Step 4
If you want blunt bangs (this does not look great on most face shapes) cut straight across, though I wouldn't recommend it. Hold the scissors vertically and cut into slowly. This will give it a softer look than if you cut it straight across horizontally.
-
Step 5
Start in the middle of your face, then start going towards your eyebrows, once you reach the end of the eyebrows. Stop. Do the other side.
-
Step 6
Check it out, some people have cowlicks and you can end up with gaps in your bangs. So now you have time to fix that problem before you snip off more of your bangs.
-
Step 7
Continue the rest of your bangs, shaping and contouring it to your face.
-
Step 8
Once you are done, style as usual!
-
Step 9
If you do make a horrific mistake, you can always pin your bangs back or clip it off to the side.
Or if you decide to grow out your bangs you can do that also.

on 10/10/2008 Definitely a good point about NOT cutting bangs when hair is wet. You'll end up with 1/2 inch long bangs :D OOPSIES!! Great advice! Thanks!
