Step 1
Do not wait until the last minute to buy a halloween costume for your toddler. Infant and toddler costumes are often picked over quickly, so it is important to start shopping for a costume a few weeks prior to halloween.
-
Step 2
When picking out a toddler costume, consider the weight and constrictiveness of the costume. If a costume is uncomfortable, your toddler will not enjoy him or herself and you may quickly be returning home. Also look for a costume which will be easy for your toddler to walk in and to climb steps in (to get to some neighbor's front door). The wrong costume could end up causing an unnecessary "boo-boo".
-
Step 3
Since it is difficult to know for sure what the temperature will be like on halloween, try to find a costume that could be worn over shorts and a t-shirt or over pants and a sweatshirt. Not only will this allow the costume to be worn in either warmer or cooler temperatures without a coat, but will keep your toddler from getting uncomfortable. Again, an unhappy toddler will not result in the memorable experience you desire.
-
Step 4
Nothing is cuter than a toddler in a halloween costume. Check stores like Old Navy and Kohls for costumes that are a bit more unique. Also check eBay for costumes that are slightly used and hopefully more unique than your local costume store. If you are looking for a particular costume, try searching for online sellers.
-
Step 5
Be prepared that your toddler may not want to wear the costume you pick out. Try on the costume before removing the tags and keep your receipts. If your toddler refuses to dress up in the costume you bought, consider a simple costume with some of his or her clothes (sweats for a sport, dresses for a princess) or buy a cheap accessory like mouse ears. Creativity is sometimes required when dealing with toddler halloween costumes.

on 10/16/2008 Thanks for the tips. We have made some of ours. We usually go to a fall festival at church and the kid always dress so cute!
