What to look for in anti aging supplements which work
What to look for in anti aging supplements which work

The anti aging phenomenon has spurned a saturated marketplace full of anti aging supplements, and other wonder cures all promising to slow down your aging process. Do any of them work? ............Slowing down your aging process is possible but its a complex process. It must be done through supplements and diet.
99% of anti aging supplements fail because they tackle the process through one approach only - the reduction of free radicals via the use of antioxidants. There are 4 primary causes of aging and each is interrelated. Anti aging supplements need to included specialized ingredients which address all four of these aging components. Having reviewed hundreds of supplements I know of just one supplement out there that does include all of these specialized nutrients.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Time- to check supplement labels online
  • Money- be prepared to pay close to $40 a bottle for the best anti aging supplements
  1. Step 1
Glycation - one of the four primary causes of aging

Glycation - one of the four primary causes of aging

    Check for Anti Glycation Agents.

The first aging component is called Glycation and it's disastrous for your health. Glycation is a complex issue involving the all important protein molecules in your body. It also involves cross linking and AGES – you may of heard these terms before. Use the link in the resource box to learn about Glycation.

Specialized anti-glycation agents are required here. The most important one is Carnosine because it attaches to glycating agents and NEUTRALIZES them (no other natural substance can duplicate the abilities of Carnosine!) The generally accepted effective dose rate is 50 – 150mg daily. Carnosine has greater efficacy when synergized with a wide range of other nutrients.

Most anti aging supplements are made to a price and can't afford to include carnosine. Don't waste your money on anti aging supplements without it.

  2. Step 2
Methylation - A disaterous cause of aging

Methylation - A disaterous cause of aging

    Check For Methylating Agents.

Although Glycation is bad, methylation is even worse. It's one of the 4 fundamental cause of aging. Methylation is a natural process in your body! Through supplementation you can take action to ensure you have balanced methylation. As you age your methylation becomes less efficient, creating SERIOUS damage to your health and the onset of degenerative disease!

To address balanced methylation seriously, anti aging supplements MUST contain these compounds:

    B Vitamins – B6, B12 and Folic Acid

Tri-Methyl-Glycine (TMG) – also known as 'Betaine'

    SAMe (S-Adenosyl-Methionine)

SAMe is by FAR the most efficacious of these methylating agents. It's a key ingredient but also a very expensive one. Only the most elite anti aging supplements have it. If your serious about slowing down and normalizing your aging process make sure your anti aging supplement contain SAMe. (P.S. see the warnings below)

  3. Step 3
Free Radicals- Another of the 4 primary causes of aging

Free Radicals- Another of the 4 primary causes of aging

Check for the most powerful antioxidants - not the cheap ones.

Pretty much everybody knows about free radicals and the need to take in lots of antioxidants through your diet to reduce the free radical population inside you. Free radical production is another of the primary causes of aging and degenerative disease.

But not all antioxidants are EQUAL. Anti aging supplements love to promote antioxidant capabilities but fail to mention that they contain only the far less effective and far cheaper vitamin antioxidants (like vitamin C ).

These cannot compete with an exceptionally potent antioxidant like L-GLUTATHIONE

Here's a group of the most powerful antioxidants that absolutely should be in (genuine) anti aging supplements in addition to L-Glutathione:

    Green Tea

    Gingko Biloba

    Alpha Lipoic Acid

    Lutein

    Bilberry

    Grape Extract

    P.S. See the warning below!

  4. Step 4

    Check For Anti Inflammation Ingredients.

Chronic inflammation is another of the primary aging components which will cause tremendous damage to your health!

One of the very dangerous chemicals associated with chronic inflammation is Tumour Necrosis Factor (TNF). TNF actively promotes the degeneration of your brain and nerves! It is activated by a combination of free radicals and AGEs.

Omega 3 fish oil has well known anti inflammation properties so this definitely should be part of your anti aging program. But that's NOT ENOUGH!

To keep the production of TNF as low as possible you need to take in nutrients such as CALORIE RESTRICTION MIMICS. The best known one is Resveratrol (make sure it's in the 'Trans form' and not the cheaper 'Cis' form).

Here's the list of the best anti inflammatory ingredients for anti aging supplements:

    Resveratrol

    Glutathione

    Carnosine

    Turmeric

    Alpha Lipoic Acid

    Flavanoids

Tips & Warnings
  • I've reviewed hundreds of vitamin/health/anti aging supplements including the market leaders. By all means do your own research but rest assured there's only one anti aging supplement out there that contains every ingredient listed in this article. If you want to cut to the chase use the Total Balance link in the resources section below to read my detailed review of this supplement
  • Nothing works in isolation. All four aging components are interrelated so you can't take isolated does of certain nutrients in an attempt to tackle just one or two of them. This won't work! All four must be addressed simultaneously
  • Resveratrol is an expensive ingredients. Companies try to sneak it in with ineffective low potencies (5-10%). Look for at least 40% potency.
  • L-Glutathione must ONLY be included in the “REDUCED' form. In the 'Regular' form the molecular size is too big and will not pass through the intestinal walls into the blood stream.
  • Both L-Glutathione and SAMe are severely damaged/destroyed by any contact with stomach acid. So any tablet containing them needs to have an ENTERIC COATING. The multi nutrient health supplement I use is the only supplement in the market I've found which contains these ingredients and is enteric coated.
