How to Not Waste Your Food

Do you find yourself tossing a handful of leftover pasta into the trash because you left it out over night? Do you cook too much food by accident?

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

If you cook too much food and end up throwing some away because either you or someone else doesn't want it, try this: Call up a friend and ask them if they are interested in eating together for dinner. Take a few dishes with you to their house, or them to your house (I'm assuming they aren't far away). This is also good for getting out of the house and for socializing.

  2. Step 2

Buy plastic wrap to cover your unfinished food. Refrigerate it, and then heat it back up a day or two later!

  3. Step 3

If you want to avoid eating out for lunch hour at work, then pack your lunch. Not enough time in the morning? Cook it the night before when you cook dinner. It can be the same meal or another meal that you eat for dinner, either way it saves you time and money the next day.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't have a weekly dinner with someone who lives like 40min.s away, that seems like too far a drive to be saving money. Personally, I only go 4 blocks down the road to where I eat with someone.
  • Save money and drink water instead of soda.

on 11/15/2008 Very useful tips here. Not wasting food is a great thing because there are many people out there starving who could survive off of the many foods we throw away, so why not make it count?! 5*

on 11/9/2008 Good ideas. Freezing it makes it keep even longer so it doesn't spoil! 5*

on 10/12/2008 Right on. I also take leftover food to my hungry part-timers at the store.

on 10/12/2008 If you have pasta that you need to reheat, you can always put it back into boiling water for a minute or two, as opposed to nuking it, thusly it's less rubbery second time around!! :) Great advice!! 5*
