Halloween is best when shared with family.

Halloween has become more than a one day holiday, it is a whole season of celebration. Here are some ways to enjoy the Halloween season and the holiday with your family.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decorate together. It's so much fun to spend a whole day adding haunting and autumn elements to the home decor. Let the kids spread cobwebs throughout the yard, paint pumpkins for the porch, sprinkle silk leaves around the tabletops. Making decorations is a craft project that can provide even more fun to the day.

  2. Step 2

Bake Halloween treats. Halloween themed cookie cutters can be used to create yummy ghosts, witches and pumpkin cookies. There are several resources for making Halloween style snacks like witches brooms and graveyard cakes. Check the resources below. Fun for the whole family to make and to eat.

  3. Step 3

Take your home made treats one step further and spend some time as a family delivering them to people you love.

  4. Step 4

Make a scarecrow. This is a fun activity for everyone to participate in the making. See the link to my How to Make a Scarecrow article below. Seeing the scarecrow you all created on your lawn every time you come home will be a reminder of what you can accomplish together.

  5. Step 5

Throw a Halloween party. Give each family member a party planning task. Invite friends and family or make it a special family only event.

  6. Step 6

Go pumpkin picking. Take a hayride, conquer a corn maze and choose the perfect pumpkins to take home and carve into jack o'lanterns.

  7. Step 7

Plan costumes together. Perhaps a group theme would be fun. Or come up with home made costumes you can make together.

  8. Step 8

Visit a haunted house. Do an online search for one near you.

  9. Step 9

Write a scary story. Have everyone participate in the telling by starting with one sentence and having each person make up the sentence that follows the one before. Draw pictures to go with your spooky tale.

  10. Step 10

Go trick or treating together. It's not only fun, it's a safe way to go.

  11. Step 11

Come home early to give out treats together. Many kids will have more fun giving out candy than collecting it. Especially if you all do it in costume to keep in the spirit.

on 10/6/2008 My kids love making cookies the most. There's something about smothering frosting and candy and sprinkles on sugar cookies. I can't imagine why they love it so :)
