Things You'll Need:
- Baby bottle with preemie nipple or animal nursing bottle (ask vet or pet store)
- Puppy Formulas: Esbilac, Puppylac and Hartz Advanced Care Puppy Milk Replacement. (ask vet of pet store)
- Box with towel and heat lamp or other source.
-
Step 1
Puppy Nursing BottleBottle feeding will need to occur every 2 hours for the first 2-3 days. In the following 2 weeks, the puppy should be offered formula no more than 3 hours apart and should feed 5-6 times in a 24 hour period.
-
Step 2
Do not force the puppy to feed. Rub the nipple of the bottle on the puppy's lips - he/she should naturally take the bottle.
-
Step 3
Example of Nursing PositionPuppy should be upright during feedings so that they will not aspirate (inhale formula into lungs) - this can be very dangerous and a cause of pneumonia.
