If you don't want to start your oven for just one potato then you can bake a single potato in the microwave in about 5 minutes.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First wash your potato and remove all dirt. Cut out the bad spots and things growing out of the eyes of the potato if applicable.

  2. Step 2

Use a fork to poke several holes in the potato. Make at least a few holes on each side of the potato.

  3. Step 3

Place the potato in the microwave on a microwave safe plate. For a medium size potato cook on high for five minutes. Microwave times may vary so you may need to cook it longer if you have a smaller microwave or a larger potato.

  4. Step 4

Remove the potato from the microwave and let it set for a few minutes. Apply condiments and enjoy.

Tips & Warnings
  • NEVER wrap a potato in aluminum foil when cooking it in the microwave. Aluminum foil cannot be used for microwave cooking.

on 11/7/2008 I do this with sweet potatoes also and it makes it easier to cook for a baby/toddler faster. I just cool it off before I feed him. Great tips.
