Naturally enhancing your hair color with organic products will keep your hair healthy, shiny and vibrant.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • coffee for brunettes
  • can of beets for redheads
  • blueberries for cutting out the red/orange in blond.
  1. Step 1

BRUNETTES: Brown hair tends to dull and lose its luster during the summer. To refresh without chemicals use any brand of coffee (gourmet flavored coffee will give your hair a nice scent). Brew 2-4 cups using 3-6 coffee scoops or heaping tablespoons of coffee, depending on how dark you wish your color to be. Let stand to cool before using. After shampooing and conditioning, put on gloves and apply coffee rinse to hair. Caution: It is a good idea to apply with your head down over the sink or tub so the rinse does not stain your skin. You may want to apply your face moisturizer beforehand: don't forget your neck.
Do NOT rinse after applying the coffee rinse.
Adjust the strength of your brew according to your desired color.

  2. Step 2

REDHEADS: I find that Beet juice from canned beets is an excellent pick-me-up for dulled out redheads. You may easily dilute the juice for the desired level of color. Strawberry blonds may want to dilute the mixture as: 1 tablespoon of beet juice to 1 cup of water. Add additional tablespoons until you reach the desired level of color enhancement.
Adding 1-2 tablespoons of Beet juice to your shampoo or conditioner is also a wonderful way to enhance your color. Be careful to wear gloves and not to get it on your face or neck.

  3. Step 3

BLONDS & GREY HAIR: Brassy blonds sometimes need toning down as well as Grey hair that is yellowing. Simmer 1 tablespoon of Fresh blueberries in 1 cup water until the water turns blue and then set aside to cool. Add one tablespoon of strained blueberry water to your current conditioner. I suggest experimenting with the amount of each before adding it to the entire bottle of conditioner. I usually squeeze out a handful of conditioner into a saucer and add my mixture until it looks like it might be right. Depending on how much ashing I need on my client. If your hair is very dry or porous from the sun or hair coloring then you will need a very small amount of the blue rinse. Be sure and wear gloves and protect your face and neck with moisturizer.

Tips & Warnings
  • Customize your enhancers by mixing the blueberry formula with the coffee formula to achieve an ash brown.
  • Or mix your Beet juice formula and coffee formula to achieve an auburn.
  • WEAR GLOVES
  • USE MOISTURIZER OR VASELINE ON FACE AND NECK
  • REMEMBER THE BACK OF YOUR NECK
  • IN THE EVENT THAT YOU ARE NOT HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS...DO NOT PANIC. SHAMPOO WITH JOHNSON'S BABY SHAMPOO TO REMOVE.
  • I strongly suggest that you go easy on your formulas until you achieve the desired results. It is easier to make your color stronger than it is to remove it.

on 3/30/2009 very cool! though I feel like the beet juice, even diluted as much as you say, would get sticky after it dried completely. I want to try to test it out though!
