Get Rid Of Athlete's Foot

Anyone can get athlete's foot. It is a fungus caused by an organism that lives on the skin and breeds best under warm, moist conditions.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

First lets make sure you have it. If it is on top of your toes it is probably contact dermatitis caused by your shoes. If it is on a childs foot under the age of puberty, it is probably not athlete's foot. If the foot is red, swollen, sore, blistered, and oozing, that is probably dermatitis and you should go to a doctor.

  2. Step 2

First thing to do is give your feet a little tender love and care. Keep them uncovered and at rest.

  3. Step 3

Soak your foot in a mixture of 2 teaspoons salt per pint of warm water.

  4. Step 4

Apply over the counter antifungal medication two or three times a day. Continue for four weeks. Make sure you do it a couple of weeks after the problem seems gone.

  5. Step 5

Ask your pharmacist to make up a solution of 25 percent aluminum chloride in water. Use a cutip or cotton swab to apply the liquid between your toes two or three times daily.

  6. Step 6

Apply baking soda paste between toes. Mix a couple of tablespoons of baking soda and add a little warm water. Rub that on your fungus, then rinse and dry. Finish by dusting on cornstarch or powder.

  7. Step 7

Remove any dead skin. This may have living fungus that can reinfect you. If you bathe you will need to shower off afterwards to keep from getting the fungus on other parts of your body.

  8. Step 8

Clean your toenails undersides with a toothpick or something wooden. Toenails are a favorite breeding place for the fungus.

  9. Step 9

Avoid plastic shoes and waterproof footwear. These trap moisture and create a warm, moist place for the fungus to grow. do not wear any shoes that are too tight and unventilated.

  10. Step 10

Don't wear the same shoes over and over every day. Change shoes twice a day if your feet sweat. Try to wear a different pair every other day.

  11. Step 11

Sprinkle antifungal powder (Desenex, Halotex, or Tinactin) in your shoes or spray them with antifungal spray. You can also put some lysol on a rag and wipe the inside of your shoes with the rag. This will kill the fungus.

  12. Step 12

Put your shoes outside in the sun to dry.

  13. Step 13

If you shower in a gym or place that others shower be sure to wear some flip flops or something. Other people leave behind their fungus and you do not want to take it home with you.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember always keep your feet clean and dry to prevent infection.
  • Always keep your shoes or any other footwear dry and clean.
