Things You'll Need:
- Arthritis
-
Step 1
Lose weight. The more overweight you are, the more stress and pressure you put on your joints. This increases the stress on the cartilage, which interferes with the bone, increasing the incidence the inflammation, swelling, and pain.
-
Step 2
Don't do everything you need to do on the days you feel well. Pace yourself. Try to do a little each day or you will be sore the next day.
-
Step 3
Learn to relax. If you focus on pain it hurts more.
-
Step 4
Stretch each day. Yoga is a great way to stretch and also strengthen.
-
Step 5
Try using a muscle ointment at night before going to bed. This will relax you and you will feel better when you wake up in the mornings.
-
Step 6
Try sitting in a warm bath. This will take pressure off of your joints.
-
Step 7
Water exercises are great for arthritis. If you have a place near you that does water aerobics or other exercises, you may want to try this. Also you may want to try bicycling which is also not too hard on the joints.
-
Step 8
Try wearing a copper bracelet. This helps some people.
-
Step 9
Use ice packs to prevent pain. Apply 15 to 20 minutes and remove for 10 to 15 minutes.
-
Step 10
Use heat to reduce pain once you have it. You can use a heating pad or electric blanket.
-
Step 11
Try using fish oil capsules or eat fish. Be careful not to use too much fish oil.
-
Step 12
Take vitamin C. Studies have shown that people with rheumatoid arthritis are deficient in vitamin C.
-
Step 13
Decrease your intake of Vegetable oil.
