It is every parents dream to get their young ones to sleep at a decent hour, in their own bed, without a fight, and this is what you need to know to help that happen.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Patience
  • Determination
  • Desire to do a good thing for your baby
  1. Step 1

Decide on a bedtime routine, such as: a bath,a bedtime story, night-time bottle, brush teeth or gums( never to late to start that good habit), a song or two. The routine should only last around thirty minutes. Bedtime should be no later than eight o'clock, seven is best.

  2. Step 2

Put baby down in his or her crib, he should be awake. Sounds crazy but it is very essential to all of this, he or she HAS to learn to put themselves to sleep on their own, that being in the crib means bedtime and sleeping time.

  3. Step 3

Now you have a choice, you can sit in the room with your baby and let him know that you are there even at bedtime or you can leave the room and check on him to let him know that you are there even when he can't see you.

  4. Step 4

Your baby will probably be upset. Now if you decide to leave the room set a time limit for how long you will wait to go in and check on him. If your baby is less than six months you will want to pick him up and calm him down then lay him back down(awake). You won't want to him up if he is older because it will most likely upset him even more, so just pat his back till he calms down but isn't asleep or lay him back down if he is sitting up.

  5. Step 5

Your baby is finally asleep, but he us up during the night so if he is still eating at night then feed him as long as he is still awake. You don't want to let him fall asleep eating but on his own, so lay him back down as soon as he is done.

  6. Step 6

Remember your time limit though, wait out your five to ten minutes to give him a chance to fall back to sleep on his own. Six in the morning is the earliest you should let your little one get up for the day.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be vigilant. It may take a few days to get your baby used to this new routine.
  • It gets better each time.
  • A baby's cry is more hurtful to the parents than the baby, but don't let them cry more than ten minutes.
