Things You'll Need:
- A computer
- An internet connection
- The second life program
- A second life account
- A whole lot of free time
- Motivation to learn
- An eye for attractive aesthetics
- A basic understanding for marketing and promoting yourself.
-
Step 1
Welcome back, if you've been following my articles on how to make money on second life, they have all been relatively easy methods for making some money. Well, now we are going to look at a much more difficult and time consuming method that has a much more lucrative potential: Clothing Design.
-
Step 2
First, you need to set the design of the clothing. Do so within the Second Life program by entering the appearance editor.
-
Step 3
Click on the tab that relates to the piece of clothing you want to make, for example: 'shirt'.
-
Step 4
Now click to create a new shirt and go through the various toggle settings until you get the basic shape of the clothing to look how you want it to look. Once you have the basic shape finished, save it as a clothing object with a name you will remember.
-
Step 5
Next, go into a photo editor or drawing program or just look for some textures that you want to use. If they are line drawings, I would recommend .png format. If your design depends on the shape of your clothing, either keep the design in mind when creating the texture or look for a specific clothing design template that you can superimpose over the image you are creating. The dimensions of your picture should be square and depend on the size of the clothing article such as 256x256 or 512 x 512.
-
Step 6
Now, go back into the Second Life program and click on 'file' near the top of the screen.
-
Step 7
Next, click on upload or bulk upload. Please note that each file you upload will cost 10 lindens and that price may change. Find your texture file and upload it into your inventory.
-
Step 8
Go into your inventory and look for the clothing piece you created earlier. Open back into the appearance editor to edit your clothing. Once you are back to the clothing specific area -look for the option to apply texture or click on the box next to the clothing color for textures. Apply your texture and make adjustments as necessary.
-
Step 9
Once you have textured and finished your object, save your design. you will want to create a box or panel to display your object. Inside the object editor you can adjust how the display looks and set a price. This can be done by right clicking your created object and clicking 'edit' and then click 'for sale' and enter a price you think is fair and competitive. It's a good idea to take a picture of yourself or a model wearing your clothing design to put on the display which can be applied to the object as a texture. When you are done, drag the clothing design you made in your inventory into the display box you have created.
-
Step 10
You will need somewhere to put your products, if you are not yet a land owner, you may wish to find a vacant spot for rent at one of the many shopping malls that can be found on Second life. Pay attention to your sales and make sure you aren't spending more on the space than you are making in sales.
-
Step 11
If you really want to improve your sales -ADVERTISE!!!! Yes, it can be expensive, but it can also make you a lot of money.
If creating objects in Second Life is something you have an aptitude for, don't give up and learn all you can! It's hard work, but there are people out there that have quit their jobs and create full time, again, it just depends on you. Good luck and persevere!!!!
