How to Prevent A Urinary Tract Infection

A urinary tract infection, otherwise known as, bladder infection, is a very painful and uncomfortable experience. Learning about the things that you can do to avoid developing urinary tract infections, can help you to ward them off.

  • Plenty of water
  • Good hygiene
  • Other preventive measures
  1. Step 1

    Increase the amount of liquid that you consume. Drinking plenty of water helps to flush out waste from your body.

  2. Step 2

    Cranberry juice is good to help ward of a urinary tract infection. Drink plain cranberry juice regularly.

  3. Step 3

    After using the bathroom, always wipe from front to back. This will help to prevent the spread of bacteria which can lead to urinary tract infections.

  4. Step 4

    Urinate after sexual intercourse. Practice good hygiene after intercourse, making sure to clean the genital area including the area around the rectal region.

  5. Step 5

    As soon as you feel like you need to urinate, you should do so immediately. Do not keep your bladder full because this will lead to a urinary tract infection.

  6. Step 6

    Stay away from bubble baths, instead take showers. Women should avoid using feminine products that are scented, such as scented sanitary napkins.

Tips & Warnings
  • Take vitamin C supplement to build up your resistance against bladder infections.
  • Wear cotton underwear.
  • Avoid drinking coffee, sodas and alcohol. These can irritate the bladder.
  • See your doctor if you think you may have a urinary tract infection. Failure to do so can lead to complications such as, kidney failure.

on 10/4/2008 I munch a few dried cranberries in the morning. They're a good snack and seem to be working well as a preventative of these infections.
